Botany

This is one of the major branches of Biology. When we talk of Botany, we talk about plants. In this light one can define Botany as follows:

A branch of biology that deals with the study of plants, including their structure, properties, and biochemical processes. Also included are plant classification and the study of plant diseases and of interactions with the environment.

Alternatively, one can define it as the scientific study of plants—how plants function, what they look like, how they are related to each other, where they grow, how people make use of plants, and how plants evolved.

Botany is also called plant science, plant biology or phytology. And those who have a good mastery of this field of study are called botanists.

Careers in botany spotlight the innovative use of plants to improve human well-being. Some jobs entail environmental protection. Five meaningful professions in this field are biotechnologist, florist, plant geneticist, field botanist, and naturalist.
